The Signs of Spring

When there is a sudden shift in the sky
And the icy blanket that once
Covered the grand fields
Begins to fade away

Those are the signs

When the ground remains damp
Still cold, but beginning to thaw,
As if waking from a long slumber

Those are the signs

When the flowers emerge
From the cold, hard earth
And begin to open and bloom
For the world to see

Those are the signs

The signs of change
Transitions from the dark frost
Into the warmth and light
Of the new season

These signs,
Normally taken as
Something to fear,
Something to discourage

When in truth,
Brings just the opposite

New life, beauteous change
A change we are to accept

In order to make the transition
We must read the signs
The signs
Of change
